Why Learn Academic English?
It is very imporatant to learn academic english. It is a way to communicate with other people and be able to understand them. Technology has definitely changed the way people speak, write ,and read and it is crucial to learn the language as it once was. Academic English is imporatant in everyday life. If you are applying for a job or a certain position it is essential to speak proper english. It would not seem professional for a person to walk into an interview expecting to get hired speaking slang. If we do not learn academic english it would be difficult to comprehend novels and books written many years ago.

About Me
My name is Lourdes Guillen. I am 18 years old and have 4 siblings, the youngest being 12 years younger than I am. I have 16 aunts and uncles just on my fathers side of the family. My grandmother must have run out of baby name ideas because she named two of them back to back Juan Jose and Jose Juan.
I was born in Virginia after my parents moved from Washington DC. My mother named me Lourdes after her childhood friend and I really like my name. I lived in Mexico for one year when I was a baby, just a few months. I lived in Houston, Texas and then moved to Chicago.
I graduated from Lane Tech and it was there where I met my five best friends. I graduated in 2010 and decided to attend NEIU. I currently have no chosen major or minor but I love History and am inclined to take history classes.
I have a matching tattoo with my sister of a breast cancer ribbon on our hearts and have my tongue pireced. I look forward to more tattoos although I'm not sure what I want.
