Thoughts on Facebook, Twitter, or another social network

To be honest i did not like Facebook or any type of social network for that matter in the beginning. Although al my friends had one and tried to convince me to get one i refused and never made one. My friend decided to make one for me regardless if i wanted one or not and surprised me by showing me i now had a Facebook. I did not log in frequently and rarely commented on anything. Now however, i really appreciate it. Most of my friends from high school left to other states and cities fo college and Facebook is a great way to communicate with them. Im able to see how they are doing, if they upload pictures i am able to comment on them and most importantly we are able to stay in touch as much as possible no matter the distance betwwen us. I do believe there are some people who are constantly on it updating their status too often which can only make one assume they are not it 24/7. I dont have any other type of social network website and i dont know how they work. I have enough with just Facebook taking up most of my computer time and getting making another social network would just be too much.

Will technology replace the traditional college classroom? Why or why not?

I think technology definitely has the potential to replace college classrooms in the near futrue. It will take a while, and it might not happen so soon but it will be an option. As we can see there are already classes you can take online rather than going to class and they are as efficient as going to class and having a professor teach. Personally i prefer having a professor to guide you and have present should there be any questions. It is very different having a computer tell you had to do something than a human being who will be more understanding. I dont think that technology can completely replace what a university can provide for a student however i do believe that both technolgy and regular schooling can unite and provide something great for students. Students can have both the technolgy of computers and more advance technology while still having the guideness of a professor.

Do you learn better with film or text? Why?

In my personal opinion i think both film and text are important. With text you get every detail and you are able to grasp the concept, however with film you get a better idea of the situation. With text you your able to read something and picture it in your head, it gives people the chance to have different perspectives of the situation but in film everyone sees things through the eyes of the director of the film and that is not good all the time. With film people are able to learn more details in less amount of time than to have to read  texts after texts, and articles that are really long. It really is up to the student and the way they learn best. Some students need texts to understand better, while others can learn just as good with film.

Hip Hop and its influences

Hip Hop has the potential to influence people's live in a positive way. Originally this is how hip hop used to be. There were many groups that sung about their lives and the hardships they were going through at the time. Little by little the lyrics to the songs startes changing and became more about degrading not only women but men; and also about killings, drugs, and violence. What is seen most in these hip hop and rap videos are women coming out half naked. Never in the videos are women portrayed as sophisticated individuals, but rather "hoes" or "bitches". To my surprie it seema as these acts have become more and more accepted by the public especially women. For example in the video we saw in class today, when the women were asked what they thought about the way women were portrayed in rap videos they seemed aloof about it and only said that since the songs were not directly towards them it did not affect them. I disagree with this, i think because the songsd are not directed to one specific female it makes all women look bad. I believe the way women are seen is not good and should be at least a little less, and with more respect to women. Young women these days do not need to see these videos and feel like they need to act a certain way, or dress a certain way to be accepted, or attracted.

Thoughts on Plagiarism

With all the new technology available it is easier to be able to plagiarize. Plagiarism can be done without the person actually realizing he or she did. In order to avoid this, the text or words should be summarized in order to make them your own. If in any case the authors words are very well written and would like to quote it, the proper citations should be done. The consequences for plagiarism are severe enough to get a student expelled from school. Therefore people should aviod plagiarism at all times. The author should recieve recognition for their hard work.

How can we end racism and classicism

It is hard to believe that racism still exists now a days. It is an issue that has existed since anyone can remember. To be able to end it will be a difficult task. I believe it is something that will never end. Racism has definitely gone a long way from the how it was to be  before, but there will always be those groups, like the Ku Klux Klan, that will not accept the fact the we are all equal in this world. I, as a Mexican-American have experienced racism towards me and it is not how an individual person should act towards another when they don't know that person to begin with. It is a hurtful experience to see a person act towards one in one way and then act completely different with another simply because of their ethnicity and class. To say that a person is more important because of the amount of money they earn is not a good justification. In order to end racism people need to be more understanding of other peoples cultures and although might not relate to them, be able to understand them. If people who are racist would stop being ignorant and took the time to get to know the culture and values of those they dont like they might end up liking and enjoying it. Everyone is different, but that does not mean that one group is better, or more important than the other. Everyone should respect and acknowledge the others race and ethnicity, religion and faith.

The War on Drugs

The war on drugs is a difficult situation to resolve. On the one hand action needs to be taken in order for streets to be cleared of drugs. Drug dealing is a huge issue in today's society and affects not just particualar people but people in general. Things need to change and in order to do that people need to get involved. But its the people chosen to take care of these matters that are important, and hoe they decide to go about this. For example Mr. Coleman from Tulia, Texas was offered the job as underciver in order to find out who was selling drugs and sentence them to jail. However, because someone as inexperienced and racist as him was chosen the way things went about it was inncorrect and not right. Coleman sent innocent people to jail for four years for crimes they never commited. When it was time for Coleman's trial for perjury he only got probation when the evidence was clear against him. The war on crime is one that nee to be taken care of but done right. I believe no one will ever be pleased though.
